The past few days have been special to me because I spent it with my family. My mom and sister, who rarely travel came to Cebu to relax and de-stress. And by de-stress, I meant eat. a. lot. 😉
First on our itinerary was Beqaa, a popular middle eastern restaurant in Mandaue City, Cebu under the management of Abaca group. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this place, so I had high expectations.
Good news is… all of them have been met. Even better news is… they offer a candlelight dinner set-up. The catch, however, your dinner can be a little pricey.
But DON’T fret, with the right choices, you can experience the best of Beqaa without hurting your pockets. Today, my mission is to teach you what to order, so you don’t go over your budget.
Ready? No time to waste… let’s start!
Meal Choice #1: Light Dinner
What: Falafel Royale – Kibbeh, Humous, Tahini, Tabbouleh, and Saj Bread. (Please see numbers 1 & 2).
Total Price: P445
Serves: 2 – 3 Pax
How to eat it:
- Cut a piece of the saj bread
- Add the patty-like yellow peas viand
- Add the green salad called Tabbouleh
- Add the cream white sauced called Humous
- Wrap then eat!
I honestly *super* love this choice. Even though I’m a certified meat lover, I preferred this over the other things we ordered. My mom and I argued whether the meatball-like viand is beef or not, but I won the bet as the waiter told us that it was made of yellow peas. Can you imagine that? Yellow. Peas. It’s the first time I heard of it, but it’s definitely not the last time I’ll have a taste of it!
Optional Add -On: Arnabeeh Mekleh – Crispy Cauliflower, Tahini, Spices & Chili (Please see numbers 3 – 5)
Serves: 1 – 2 Pax
Another honest revelation: The cauliflower tasted like chicken. I couldn’t believe my taste buds! Kudos to the chef, you almost made me consider being a vegetarian. Almost! 🙂
Even without this order thought, I already satisfied with the Falafel Royale. That + good conversation would make my night anytime. 🙂
Now if you’re feeling a little fancy and you want to go the extra mile to please your partner, I’ve included a meal option that is above P500. You don’t have to order this if you’re budget is little tight, but you could bookmark this page for your next date!
Meal Option #2: Full Dinner
What: Beef Kebab (Please see number 6) + Garlic Rice
Price: P795 + P95 (x 2)
Total Price: P985
I forgot to tell the waiter to have our kebab well done, so what we got was medium done. I thought I wouldn’t like it, but it actually didn’t bother me as the delicious taste of the beef overpowered the dish. It’s a perfect pair to their garlic rice. You can opt to share one cup since it’s larger than the regular cup serving.
Optional Add-On: Chicken Tikka Masala (Indian Chicken Curry) & DAL (A dried pulse that has been split. It is also known as pappu, paripu or paruppu.) Please see numbers 7 & 9.
Price: DAL (P395)
I didn’t eat a lot of this, as I had some Indian food the day before and I was already full. Mom thought they were quite delicious though. I’ve have to verify that on my next visit.
…and there you have it! Dates don’t have to be expensive; what matters most is the person you’re spending your precious time with. But it also doesn’t hurt to show-off once in a while. So if you want more tips, subscribe to this blog or click here to like my Facebook page.
